The FTX-1 can be used in a variety of ways, from field operation using batteries to mobile operation.
FTX-1 Field
The included high-capacity lithium-ion battery “SBR-52LI” can be mounted on the back, allowing for long-term field operation of approximately 9 hours on the HF band in SSB with transmission output of 6W (5W in QRP mode). When connected to an external power source (DC 13.8V), operating with a transmission output of 10W is possible.

The battery and antenna tuner “FC-80” (optional) can be installed at the same time, so antenna tuning can be performed even in field operation.

Pick the configuration first: FTX-1 Field is a self-contained radio (6W on battery, 10W on external 13.8V), while FTX-1 optima is the 100W main-body configuration (50W on 144/430MHz). The manual states the panel can be detached and mounted on a commercially available stand, so optima as a fixed station and Field as a portable station follows the factory design intent.

The FTX-1 is equipped with a 4.3-inch full-color TFT display. Operating functions, including the receiving band noise and signal interference reduction tools, are graphically displayed. Even while involved in rigorous operations, such as DXpeditions and contests, the operator may instantly grasp the status of each function.

Filter Function Display monitors the status of the passband
In the display, a filter function display presents the state of the pass-band. In addition to the operating state of the interference removal functions, the filter function information is displayed. Not only can you grasp the operating status of WIDTH, SHIFT, NOTCH and CONTOUR at a glance, you can also view the status of the RF spectrum in the passband.

3DSS method adopted
In addition to the conventional waterfall display, a 3DSS (3 Dimensions Spectrum Stream) image method has been adopted. The 3DSS image uses the horizontal axis (X axis) for frequency, the vertical axis (Y axis) for signal intensity, and the Z axis for time. Compared to the conventional waterfall method, the signal strength is displayed in three dimensions as well as in color, recognition of changes in the band conditions is instant, convenient and intuitive.

1.4 接收前端：两级 RF 放大、IPO 与接收辅助功能Receiver Front End: Two RF Stages, IPO and Reception Aids
Two selectable RF Stages amplify the desired signals from low band to high band
RF amplifier AMP1, and AMP2 are low noise negative feedback RF amplifiers that may be selected or combined in series as is needed for various low-band, high-band, frequency and noise conditions.
In addition, the IPO (Intercept Point Optimization) function maximizes the dynamic range and enhances the close multi-signal and inter-modulation characteristics of the receiver. The influence of strong broadcasting stations, especially in the low bands, can be minimized.

Monitor 5 channels in the VHF/UHF band and operate efficiently using PMG (Primary Memory Group)
The PMG function scans up to 5 channels registered to the PMG. The receive status of each channel is simultaneously displayed in real time with a bar graph.

The Super DX function increases the sensitivity of the RF amplifier when the received signal is weak, expanding the calling range.

1.5 音频与 QRP 模式Audio and QRP Mode
High quality sound and loud volume from 2-way front speakers
Equipped with two speakers of different diameters, the sound is emitted from the opening at the bottom of the front panel, reproducing high quality sound at a volume sufficient for field operation.
The FTX-1 optima has a large 66mm, 2.5W high quality speaker on top of the rear case, ensuring sufficient volume for fixed station operation.

Equipped with a QRP mode that allows you to set the maximum transmission output to “5W” on all bands. This is useful for QRP contests.

1.6 关于 TFT 显示屏About TFT Displays
FTX-1 series utilizes a TFT liquid-crystal display. Although TFT liquid-crystal displays are made using very precise technology, they are prone to develop dead pixels (dark dot) or pixels that are always on (bright dot). Please understand that such phenomena do not constitute product defects or malfunctions. Rather, this phenomenon occurs due to limitations in the manufacturing technology with respect to TFT liquid-crystal displays.
Depending on the viewing angle, unevenness in color or brightness may occur. Please note that any unevenness observed is inherent to the construction of TFT liquid crystal displays and therefore does not constitute a product defect or malfunction.

If your TFT liquid-crystal display becomes dirty, please use a dry soft cloth or tissue to wipe the display clean. If it is extremely dirty, moisten it with water or lukewarm water and wipe it off with a soft cloth that has been wrung out tightly. Use of glass cleaner, household cleaners, organic solvents, alcohol, abrasives, and/or like substance may damage the TFT liquid-crystal display.

关于 SDR 架构与双频接收：本机型 48MHz 以下采用直接采样超外差（Direct Sampling Superheterodyne），48MHz 及以上采用单次变频中频采样（Single Conversion IF Sampling），MAIN 中频 44.5~49.5MHz、SUB 中频 41.3~44.3MHz（详见第 2 章技术规格）。双频接收即 MAIN 与 SUB 两套接收通道可分别独立工作，因此能在 HF 与 V/U 段各守一个频率；但手册明确“不支持 HF/HF 同时接收”，即两个接收通道不能同时落在 HF 范围内——这是规划野外双守方案时必须先确认的限制。
About the SDR architecture and dual reception: below 48MHz the radio uses Direct Sampling Superheterodyne; at 48MHz and above it uses Single Conversion IF Sampling, with MAIN IF 44.5 – 49.5MHz and SUB IF 41.3 – 44.3MHz (see Chapter 2). Dual reception means the MAIN and SUB receiver chains operate independently, so you can watch one frequency on HF and another on V/U; however, the manual explicitly states that simultaneous HF/HF reception is not supported, so both receivers cannot be on HF at the same time — confirm this limit before planning any dual-watch field setup.

最常见的误解是“FTX-1 全波段都是同一个最大功率”。按手册原文必须分四层理解：①FTX-1 optima 在 HF/50MHz 波段为 5 – 100W，但在 144/430MHz 波段只有 5 – 50W；②FTX-1 Field 用 SBR-52LI 电池时只有 0.5 – 6W，接外部 DC 13.8V 时才可到 0.5 – 10W；③即使在外部电源下，70MHz 波段仍被限制为 0.5 – 6W；④AM 模式的载波功率远低于 SSB/CW：Field 为 0.5 – 2.5W，optima 在 HF/50MHz 为 5 – 25W、144/430MHz 为 5 – 13W。因此“换波段后功率掉一半”多半不是故障，而是规格本身如此。
The most common misconception is that one maximum power figure applies to every band. Per the manual there are four levels: (1) FTX-1 optima is 5 – 100W on HF/50MHz but only 5 – 50W on 144/430MHz; (2) FTX-1 Field is 0.5 – 6W on the SBR-52LI battery and 0.5 – 10W only on external DC 13.8V; (3) even on external power the 70MHz band is limited to 0.5 – 6W; (4) AM carrier power is much lower than SSB/CW: 0.5 – 2.5W for Field, 5 – 25W on HF/50MHz and 5 – 13W on 144/430MHz for optima. So “half power after a band change” is usually the specification, not a fault.

Per the specification table, FTX-1 optima draws about 21A at 100W on HF/50MHz, 9A at 50W on 144MHz and 12A at 50W on 430MHz; the rear-panel section of the manual requires an external DC supply capable of at least 25A @13.8VDC. An undersized supply will sag at full power and trigger protection or prevent full output — specify 25A continuous capability, not just peak. Rule number one: never touch the antenna during transmission, and stay as far from it as practical. Route the feed line and secure the antenna terminals where nobody can touch them, and make it a habit to take your hand off the antenna before keying; when stringing temporary field antennas, warn bystanders too.

Rule number two: if an alarm occurs while an external antenna is connected, cut power to the radio immediately and disconnect the external antenna. The manual says “cut off the power supply to this radio immediately and disconnect the external antenna from this radio”; failing to do so may result in fire, electric shock and equipment failure. The CAUTION section adds that you must not use the radio during an alarm, that the DC supply plug should be pulled from the AC socket for safety, and that the antenna must never be touched, since thunder may cause fire, electric shock and equipment failure. In thunderstorms, disconnect power and antenna first and wait it out.

Suggested buying order (this is field and community practice, not factory manual content — community-reported): (1) portable operators should buy a second SBR-52LI first — the manual rates about 9 hours on HF/SSB at 6W and 8 hours on V/UHF/FM at 6W (6-6-48 duty cycle), so a full day out usually needs a swap; (2) for field wire antennas choose FC-80, which the manual explicitly says can be installed together with the battery, while FC-40 suits a fixed station on optima’s TUNER jack; (3) if you run FT8/RTTY continuously, the SCF-1 cooling fan is worth it — the manual positions it exactly for continuous transmission on external power; (4) add BU-6 + SSM-BT20 only if you want to cut cables; (5) MHG-1 fits SPA-1 only, so confirm your configuration before ordering. When the transceiver is powered OFF, the LED glows red while charging, turns green when charging is complete, and blinks red and green in case of a charging error.

Charging notes
- Do not attach the SBR-52LI to the FTX-1 while charging via USB PD. Doing so may damage the battery.
- If the external power supply voltage is below 13.8V, the battery may not be fully charged.
- To charge via the USB Type-C terminal, a commercially available USB PD (Power Delivery) charger (output 45W or more, DC15V 2A output compatible) and a Type-C cable compatible with PD are required.
- It takes approximately 7 hours to fully charge the SBR-52LI battery pack when the transceiver is turned OFF. If the transceiver is turned ON, the charging time will be longer.
- Depending on the battery status, the charging time might be increased.
- 9-hour stand-alone operating time with 6W on HF bands (SSB), and 8-hour operating time with 6W on V/UHF bands (FM) are available (6-6-48 duty cycle).

只看上表就能解决野外“能不能边充边发”的疑问：只接 USB PD、且没装电池组时，接收可以但发射为“不可以”；装上电池组后接收与发射都可以，但对电池的充电会在发射时停止（Stops when sending）。接了外部 DC 13.8V（无论是否同时接 USB PD）时，即使不装电池组也能正常收发。因此要用 FT8 之类需要发射的模式，务必至少接上 DC 13.8V 外部电源或装上电池组，只插一条 USB PD 线是不够的。
The table answers the classic field question “can I transmit while charging”: with USB PD only and no battery pack installed, receive is possible but transmit is not; with the pack installed, both receive and transmit work but charging stops while sending. With external DC 13.8V connected (with or without USB PD), receive and transmit both work even with no pack installed. So for any mode that transmits, such as FT8, connect external DC 13.8V or install the battery pack — a USB PD cable alone is not enough.
5.4 外部电源的连接Connecting an External Power Source
DC 13.8V
This is the DC power supply connection for the transceiver. Use the supplied DC cable to connect directly to a DC power supply.
The white-and-black wire is positive polarity, and the black wire is negative.
For the FTX-1 optima, the DC power supply must be capable of supplying at least 25 A @13.8 VDC.

GND
Use this terminal to connect the transceiver to a good earth ground, for safety and optimal performance. To prevent damage from lightning, atmospheric electrical discharges, electric shock etc., provide a good earth ground. Use a short, thick, braided cable to connect the station equipment to the buried ground rod (or alternative earth ground system).

The pin arrangement shown in the manual is viewed from the side panel of the FTX-1.
Microphone jack pin names: FAST, GND, PTT, MIC, MIC GND, +5V, UP, DOWN.
Key-up voltage is +5.0 V DC, and keydown current is 3 mA.
A two-contact plug cannot be used in this jack (φ3.5mm jack).

充电与电池最容易踩的四个坑，全部取自手册原文：①通过 USB PD 充电时，绝不要把 SBR-52LI 装到 FTX-1 上，手册写明“may damage the battery（可能损坏电池）”——正确做法是要么拆下电池单独充，要么接 DC 13.8V 在机内充；②外部电源电压低于 13.8V 时电池可能充不满，野外用可调电源或汽车点烟器口时要先量电压；③USB Type-C 充电必须使用 45W 以上、支持 DC15V 2A 输出的 USB PD 充电器与支持 PD 的 Type-C 线缆，普通手机充电器大概率压根不充；④LED 颜色要对照状态看——装在本机上且开机时 LED 恒亮蓝色，这并不代表已充满，判断是否充满要在关机状态下看是否转为绿色；单独用 USB PD 充时“熄灭”才是充电完成。另外，电源关闭时充满约需 7 小时，开机充电会更久，别在出发前一晚才想起来充。
Four charging pitfalls, all straight from the manual: (1) never attach the SBR-52LI to the FTX-1 while charging via USB PD — the manual says this “may damage the battery”; either remove the pack and charge it alone, or charge it in the radio from DC 13.8V; (2) if the external supply is below 13.8V the battery may not charge fully, so measure the voltage first when using an adjustable supply or a car outlet; (3) USB Type-C charging requires a USB PD charger of 45W or more with DC15V 2A output and a PD-compatible Type-C cable — an ordinary phone charger will most likely not charge at all; (4) read the LED against the state: when the pack is in the radio with the power on, the LED is steady blue, which does not mean fully charged — check for green with the radio off, and note that with standalone USB PD charging “none” (LED off) means charge complete. Also, a full charge takes about 7 hours with the radio off and longer with it on, so do not start charging the night before you leave.
