泉盛 UV-K5 Quansheng UV-K5 使用指南（中英双语）

The Quansheng UV-K5 / UV-K5(8) exploded in popularity from 2023 as a budget dual-band HT (around €25). Its killer feature is a flashable BK4819 chip — the community turned an entry radio into one with mid/high-end behaviour.

• Receive: dual-band VHF/UHF; stock ~136–174 / 400–520 MHz; custom firmware can extend receive to ~18–1300 MHz (receive only)
• Transmit: region-locked amateur bands
• Channels: UV-K5(8) has larger memory (~200+ channels)
• Ports: USB-C (programming/charge), airband AM 108–136 MHz, 10 NOAA channels
• Chip: BK4819 (flashable)

egzumer (most active, recommended — includes fagci spectrum analyser / AM fix / scrambler), fagci (SSB demod), IJV, OEFW, LOSEHU (Chinese UI) and more. The bootloader is preserved on every flash, so brick risk is minimal.

The UV-K5 defaults to VFO (frequency) mode where you can type a frequency directly (e.g. 145.500). Make sure the frequency step (Menu STEP) is appropriate for the channel.

Open the menu, find Shift direction and Offset, and set the direction and value (e.g. 2m +0.600 / 70cm +5.000, per local repeater listing). Menu labels/numbers vary across firmware — follow what your radio shows.

After setting, open the menu and choose Memory Save / channel store, then pick an empty channel slot. Stock and custom firmware use different wording, but both save from Frequency Mode.

For multiple channels, bulk work or backups, use a PC + CHIRP (with the egzumer driver) — see the CHIRP guide. Manual entry is error-prone.

Install CHIRP. Connect with the factory K-plug / USB-C programming cable. Note: with a custom firmware (e.g. egzumer) you must load a dedicated driver module to see all fields.

Menu Radio › Download from Radio → Vendor Quansheng / Model UV-K5(8) (or egzumer) → pick port → read. Edit the Memories table (freq/tone/power/name), File › Save a .img backup, or Export CSV for bulk editing.

Radio › Upload to Radio to write. Under custom firmware, do not use the factory CPS — it overwrites and corrupts custom settings. Re-read afterwards to verify.

Open the egzumer release page FLASH WITH A BROWSER link (or egzumer.github.io/uvtools) in Chrome/Chromium, click Flash firmware, pick the serial port (e.g. COM4 / ttyUSB0); ~30 seconds. Do not power off or unplug during flashing.

Power cycle to boot the new firmware. The bootloader is always kept, so even a bad flash can be recovered with stock firmware — brick risk is minimal.

• Browser can't see device: Snap Chrome has no hardware access — install a native browser; on Linux add your user to the dialout group.
• No Update button: not in flash mode (redo PTT+power).
• Windows needs the CH340/USB-serial driver.

Stock firmware is limited. Custom firmware turns the UV-K5 into a "near mid/high-end" radio with a spectrum analyser, SSB, scrambler, USB modulation, finer squelch and battery readout.

• egzumer (recommended): most active; bundles fagci spectrum analyser, AM fix, scrambler, channel-name editing, RSSI bar, more sensitive squelch, key remap, battery recalibration.
• fagci: SSB demodulation, origin of the spectrum analyser.
• IJV: extended TX range.
• OEFW: RF optimisation.
• LOSEHU: Chinese UI + extras like Doppler.

Most users pick egzumer: full features, active community, easy WebUSB flashing. Want SSB shortwave? pick a fagci-based build. Back up .img + CSV with CHIRP before flashing.

The stock Quansheng UV-K5 has no texting, but after flashing third-party firmware (e.g. egzumer, IJV, OEFW) most add a Messenger / SMS / chat feature: you type on the keypad, hold PTT and the text is sent as a data burst on your current voice channel; another UV-K5 on the same firmware and frequency receives and decodes it. This page covers how it works, the conditions and the limits.

This is radio-to-radio direct text chat, not APRS:

• The text is sent as a data burst (modulated audio) on the current frequency; the other side receives on the same frequency and decodes/displays it.
• No internet, no iGate — pure point-to-point (or others on the same frequency watching).
• It uses your voice channel — it counts as a "data" transmission.

• Two or more UV-K5 radios, both running the same class of Messenger-capable firmware (egzumer as example; IJV/OEFW have similar features with slightly different paths).
• Both tuned to the same frequency / channel, and within radio range (line of sight, little obstruction).
• The receiver just monitors that frequency (some firmwares need you to sit in the Messenger screen).

1. Confirm you flashed a Messenger-capable firmware (see the custom firmware page).
2. Tune both radios to the same frequency; listen first to confirm it is clear and legal.
3. In the menu find Messenger / SMS (path varies by version — follow the screen); enter text on the keypad.
4. When done, hold PTT to transmit — the text goes as a data burst; release to stop.
5. The other radio on the same frequency receives and shows the text (automatically or manually).

Menu levels differ per firmware; check your firmware's docs. Flashing has risks — back up first.

• This feature: radio-to-radio direct text, same frequency, short range, no network.
• APRS messaging: via 144.390 (NA) / 144.800 (EU) through an iGate to the internet — cross-city/country, can reach email, but needs iGate coverage and a firmware like IJV.
• For "send a message far to someone" use APRS; for "short-range quiet chat / drill on a shared frequency" use this.

• Keep messages short: a long burst occupies the channel longer and is more prone to errors.
• Match firmware versions: sender and receiver should use the same or compatible firmware so encoding matches.
• Same frequency + monitor: the other side must sit on your transmit frequency.
• Prefer line of sight: the small UV-K5 has limited power; buildings/cars attenuate a lot.

• Range = radio range: no repeater / internet relay, so beyond receive distance it is lost.
• No store-and-forward: if the other side isn't monitoring, the message is missed and not re-sent.
• Both need firmware: a stock radio or different firmware can't receive/decode.
• Not encrypted by default: anyone on the frequency can read it — don't send private info.

The fagci spectrum analyser built into egzumer shows, on the small screen, a real-time energy plot of a frequency span (like a portable SDR) — handy for spotting active frequencies, interference and free bands.

In egzumer, enter the "Spectrum / scan" view via a function key or menu (entry differs by version — often a long-press of a function key or a Spectrum item in the menu). Set the scan span (e.g. 144–148 MHz).

• Find repeaters: sweep the local repeater band to see which spots show steady activity.
• Find interference: sweep a free segment before a field deployment.
• SOTA/POTA: gauge band activity without a laptop.

The UV-K5 BK4819 RF chip natively spans from HF up to GHz; flashing custom firmware (e.g. fagci / egzumer) unlocks SSB (USB/LSB) receive, letting you listen to amateur HF bands and shortwave SSB/AM signals. A hands-on note; menus vary by firmware.

Chip- and firmware-dependent: commonly roughly 18–30 MHz of lower HF (part of the 20 m / 40 m amateur bands and similar) plus signals above 30 MHz; some firmwares add AM broadcast (whether medium wave is reached depends on the version). Do not expect it to replace a dedicated shortwave receiver — sensitivity, selectivity and front-end filtering are limited.

1. First flash a firmware that supports SSB (see the firmware-choice and flashing pages).
2. In receive mode, switch demodulation to USB or LSB (shortwave/ham lower sideband LSB, upper sideband USB).
3. Narrow the bandwidth (around 2.4 kHz) to reject adjacent channels.
4. Tune with the keys or direct frequency entry; use the spectrum/waterfall to find signals.
5. For HF, connect an external long-wire / telescopic antenna — the stock rubber duck is very poor on HF.

• HF propagation swings with day/night, season and ionosphere; shortwave is livelier at night.
• Set step to 1 kHz or less for fine tuning to the sideband centre.
• A heterodyne whistle means you are off; SSB has no carrier, so being off makes speech unintelligible.
• Use Notch / noise reduction if the firmware offers them.

Confirm flash mode (PTT+power, screen off/light on); use native Chrome/Edge (Snap has no access); install the CH340 driver on Windows; on Linux add your user to the dialout group.

You're not in the bootloader. Redo: power off → hold PTT and power on → light on, then connect the cable.

Don't panic: the bootloader is always kept. Reflash a good firmware with the factory tool or egzumer WebUSB — almost never bricks.

Custom firmware offers a hidden battery calibration menu (power on while holding FN1+PTT, then Menu 67 BatCal). Follow prompts to recalibrate.

K5Web is a family of browser-based graphical configuration tools for the UV-K5: no CHIRP or vendor software to install — open the page in a Web Serial-capable browser like Chrome / Edge, connect the UV-K5 to the PC with a programming cable, and you can read, edit and write back channels, names, tones, scan lists and more — all in the web page. This page covers what it is, how to use it, how it compares to CHIRP, and the safety/compliance notes.

It is essentially a web-based radio configurator:

• No install: open the page and use it, across Windows / macOS / Linux / ChromeOS.
• Web Serial direct link: talks to the UV-K5 through the browser's native Serial API (needs a browser that supports it, e.g. desktop Chrome/Edge).
• Graphical UI: channels, frequencies, names, CTCSS/DCS, scan lists shown as tables/forms — click to change.
• Most builds target UV-K5s running custom firmware (egzumer etc.), because those firmwares expose an easier protocol.

1. Connect the UV-K5 to the PC USB with a UV-K5 programming cable (4-pole 3.5mm or dedicated cable).
2. Open the K5Web page in desktop Chrome / Edge (use an official / trusted mirror).
3. In the page click Connect, pick the serial port that appears and grant permission.
4. Click Read to pull the radio's current channels and settings into the web table.
5. In the page add/remove channels, change frequency/name/tone/scan list as needed.
6. Click Write to push changes back to the radio; a reboot after writing is a good check.

Different K5Web versions differ slightly in UI — follow the page hints; before any write, export/back up the current config so you can restore if something goes wrong.

• Channel management: bulk add/remove, reorder, rename, import/export channel lists.
• Frequency & params: per-channel RX/TX frequency, step, bandwidth, power.
• Tones: CTCSS / DCS set separately for TX and RX.
• Scan lists: tick which channels take part in scanning.
• Some builds also expose FM presets, boot screen, menu language and other extras (depends on firmware capability).

• CHIRP: locally installed, multi-brand (UV-5R / UV-K5 / FT-65R and more), mature ecosystem, can import community channel banks; but UV-K5 needs the right driver and model support.
• K5Web: pure web, no install, UI closer to UV-K5 native logic, more direct for custom firmware; but targets the UV-K5 family only and depends on a Web Serial browser.
• For day-to-day multi-model management pick CHIRP; for UV-K5 + custom firmware and zero-install, pick K5Web.
