China Visitor Consulting โ€” A Local’s Perspective

Planning a trip to China and confused by something no guide explains?

Guidebooks tell you what. I tell you why it’s like that โ€” from someone who lives here.

I’m BG7BAG, a ham radio operator based in China since 1999. I’ve helped visiting hams and foreign friends navigate the stuff that doesn’t make sense on paper: why your payment failed at a street stall but worked at the mall, why the hotel needs your passport for everything, why Taobao shows three different prices for the same thing.

What I offer

Email consulting. You send me your questions, I reply with detailed answers from a local’s perspective โ€” including what I know, what I’m not sure about, and where I’d look it up.

What I can help with

  • Mobile payments (WeChat Pay / Alipay) โ€” setup issues, why something got rejected
  • Shopping (Taobao / JD) โ€” reading listings, spotting fakes, shipping
  • Daily life โ€” SIM cards, transport, apps you actually need
  • Ham radio โ€” licensing, operating in China, finding local clubs
  • Anything where you think “a local would know this”

What I won’t do

  • Legal, visa, or immigration advice (talk to a professional)
  • Anything I can’t verify โ€” I’ll tell you when I don’t know

Pricing

$50 โ€” up to 3 questions, detailed email reply within 48 hours.

Payment via Ko-fi or PayPal. If I can’t answer your questions, full refund โ€” no questions asked.

How it works

  1. Send your questions via email using the contact page
  2. I’ll confirm I can help (or tell you honestly if I can’t)
  3. You pay, I deliver within 48 hours
