UV-5R Keypad Programming
Program frequencies and repeaters with the radio's own keys — no computer needed.
Enter Frequency Mode
If the screen shows (channel mode), press VFO/MR to switch to Frequency Mode (plain number, no CH). All programming must be done from the A side / Frequency Mode.

Turn off Dual Watch (TDR)
Press MENU 7 MENU, set to OFF, then MENUEXIT. Leaving Dual Watch on is a common cause of channels not saving.
Enter the receive frequency
Type the frequency directly, e.g. 146940 for 146.940 MHz. If you can’t land on an exact frequency, set Menu 1 STEP to 5.00 kHz.
Repeater: set offset & direction
MENU 25 MENU sets shift direction (+ / − / OFF); MENU 26 MENU enters the offset (typical 2m=00600, 70cm=05000).
Set transmit tone
If the repeater needs a tone: MENU 13 MENU, choose T-CTCS, enter the tone (e.g. 1035 = 103.5 Hz). Skip if no tone required.
Save to a channel
MENU 27 MENU, enter a channel number (000–127) to save the receive frequency. For a repeater, also key in the transmit frequency (receive ± offset) and repeat Menu 27 to the same channel — most reliable across firmware versions.
Verify
Back in Channel Mode, the channel should show a + or −. Briefly press PTT and you should see CT and the frequency shift to the offset value.
