Guides for this model
Use the navigation below: keypad programming, CHIRP, factory reset, frequency settings, CTCSS/DCS, repeater setup, troubleshooting. Start with “Programming” and “CHIRP”.
Can the UV-5R run custom firmware?
No. The UV-5R uses an RDA1846 chip and its firmware cannot be overwritten. The flashable radio is the Quansheng UV-K5 (BK4819 chip).
Why can I hear others but they can't hear me?
Most often a missing or wrong transmit tone (CTCSS/Tone), so the repeater ignores you. See the CTCSS/DCS guide.
What is the legal TX range of a UV-5R?
Depends on version and region. US versions commonly 144–148 / 420–450 MHz. Operate only within authorised, licensed bands locally.
