Yaesu FT-60R — Manual Overview
The classic wide-receive analogue HT known for "hearing a lot".
Overview
The Yaesu FT-60R is a classic 5W dual-band analogue HT whose headline feature is very wide receive: 108–520 MHz and 700–999.99 MHz (cellular blocked) — great for those who want to “hear a lot” and for monitoring.
Key specifications
- Power: 5W (HI/MID/LOW)
- Receive: 108–520 MHz & 700–999.99 MHz (cellular blocked); TX 144–148 / 430–450 MHz
- Channels: ~1000, flexible memory
- Power: Ni-MH standard, Li-ion optional; rugged body (no FT-65R IP54 rating)
- Mode: analogue FM only — no digital, no APRS, no built-in GPS
vs FT-65R
The FT-60R receives wider and is an older platform (Ni-MH); the FT-65R is newer, IP54 splash-rated, 1W loud audio, lighter. Both lack APRS/digital. For digital/APRS see the FT-70DR.
Programming notes
VFO mode to set frequency → F into Set Mode for tone/offset → long-press *V/M to store. PC via CHIRP (Vendor=Yaesu / Model=FT-60R) + factory cable.
Can the FT-60R receive shortwave (HF)?
No. Receive starts at 108 MHz; no HF. For shortwave you need a shortwave receiver or SSB-capable radio.
FT-60R or FT-65R?
Want wide receive / proven old platform → 60R; want newer, IP54, loud audio → 65R.
Does it have APRS?
No. The FT-60R is analogue only. For APRS pick the FT-70DR.
