Regulations & safety

Is the FT-65R good for beginners?
Yes. It sticks to reliable analogue FM, has a simple menu, solid build and loud audio — many reviews’ “best overall beginner” pick.
Does it have APRS?
No. The FT-65R is analogue only — no APRS/digital. For APRS see the dedicated page and alternatives like the FT-70DR.
FT-65R vs FT-60R/FT-4XR/FT-70DR?
FT-60R receives wider; FT-4XR is smaller/lighter; FT-70DR does C4FM digital. For plain VHF/UHF, the FT-65R is the easiest to live with.
