UV-K5 Keypad Programming

Set frequencies and repeaters without a PC, but use CHIRP for many channels.

Enter Frequency Mode

The UV-K5 defaults to VFO (frequency) mode where you can type a frequency directly (e.g. 145.500). Make sure the frequency step (Menu STEP) is appropriate for the channel.

Set the offset (repeater)

Open the menu, find Shift direction and Offset, and set the direction and value (e.g. 2m +0.600 / 70cm +5.000, per local repeater listing). Menu labels/numbers vary across firmware — follow what your radio shows.

Save to a channel

After setting, open the menu and choose Memory Save / channel store, then pick an empty channel slot. Stock and custom firmware use different wording, but both save from Frequency Mode.

The reliable way: CHIRP

For multiple channels, bulk work or backups, use a PC + CHIRP (with the egzumer driver) — see the CHIRP guide. Manual entry is error-prone.

Can I store a repeater by keypad on the K5?
Yes. In Frequency Mode set the downlink and offset, then use the menu “Memory Save” to a free channel.
My menu numbers don't match?
Stock and custom (egzumer etc.) firmware use different menu wording/order — operate by the name shown on your radio.
Keypad or CHIRP — which to use?
Keypad for a single quick entry; CHIRP + egzumer driver for many channels, backups and cloning.
