UV-5R Factory Reset
Clear settings correctly — and a reminder to avoid the unlawful engineer mode.
When to reset
Use a factory reset when you’ve forgotten prior settings, things are muddled, or you want a clean start. Note it deletes all stored channels.
Menu reset steps
Steps: MENU 40 MENU → use ▲/▼ to choose ALL (wipe all channels & settings) or VFO (clear Frequency-Mode settings only) → MENU to confirm (some versions need a second press) → radio reboots cleared.
Back up first
Before resetting, read with CHIRP and save a .img so you don’t lose channels. See the CHIRP guide.
Never "unlock all-band TX"

Online tricks like “PTT+MONI+VFO/MR at power-on enter FACTORY mode to unlock full TX” make the UV-5R transmit outside amateur bands — illegal in most places and may interfere with emergency comms. We do not encourage this; don’t do it.
Channels gone after reset?
ALL wipes every channel; pick VFO to clear only Frequency-Mode temp settings.
Will reset fix "hear but not heard"?
First check tones/offset (CTCSS/DCS, Repeater); reset is a last resort.
What is FACTORY mode?
An engineer mode for calibration/unlock — not for daily use and often tied to illegal TX.
