FT-65R CHIRP Programming
Bulk-program, back up and clone with free CHIRP.
Prepare
Install CHIRP and connect with the Yaesu SCU-35 programming cable (some third-party cables also work). Windows may need a serial driver.
Read
CHIRP menu Radio › Download from Radio → Vendor Yaesu → Model FT-65R (if absent, try FT-65 / FT-4XR and other close models) → pick port → read. After read, File › Save a .img backup.
Edit & write
In the Memories table enter frequency, Tone Mode, Tone/ToneSql, Power, Name; Radio › Upload to Radio to write. Read first, verify by reading back after.
Note
i
The FT-65R is analogue, so CHIRP shows no digital/APRS fields — that’s expected.
No FT-65R model in CHIRP?
Update to the latest CHIRP; if still missing, try FT-65 / FT-4XR and other close models (similar memory layout).
Must I use the original SCU-35?
Original is most reliable; third-party cables work but watch drivers and orientation.
Can CHIRP set tones?
Yes — Tone Mode = Tone (TX only) or TSQL (same code both ways), with the frequency filled in.
