FT-65R Keypad Programming
Set frequencies and channels from the body — fastest for a quick field addition.
Enter Frequency (VFO) Mode
On power-up it’s usually in channel mode. Press VFO/MR (or *V/M) to switch to Frequency Mode and type a frequency directly (e.g. 145.500).
Set parameters
Press F to enter Set Mode: set power (F+P2 cycles HI/MID/LOW), squelch (F+MONI/T.CALL), repeater offset and tones (see CTCSS/DCS and Repeater pages).
Store to a channel
Steps: in VFO set frequency, tone, offset, power → long-press *V/M → an empty channel appears → optionally tag it with number keys → long-press *V/M again to save (shows MEM-IN).
Easier with a PC
For many channels and backups use CHIRP (see CHIRP page) or the factory CPS with an SCU-35 cable. The keypad is ideal for adding one frequency in the field.
Must I long-press *V/M to store?
Yes. A short press switches modes; long-press enters the store flow (empty channel first, then long-press to confirm).
How to change power quickly?
Press F + P2 to cycle HI(5W)/MID(2.5W)/LOW(0.5W).
How to adjust squelch?
Press F + MONI/T.CALL to enter the squelch setting.
