FT-65R Repeater Setup

Auto or manual shift both reach repeaters — avoid "hear but not heard".

How a repeater works

A repeater uses a downlink (what you hear) and uplink (what you transmit), the gap being the offset. The FT-65R can use Auto Repeater Shift (ARS) or a manual SHIFT.

Set & store

Steps: in VFO enter the downlink → press F into Set Mode and set SHIFT direction (+ / −; US VHF/UHF is usually +) → use ARS (auto) or set the offset manually (2m 0.6 / 70cm 5.0 MHz) → set the transmit tone (see CTCSS page) → long-press *V/M to store the channel.

Check

Back in channel mode, find the channel; pressing PTT should show the offset and a CT indicator. If “hear but not heard”, re-check the transmit tone and SHIFT direction.

Note

!
The offset direction (+/−) and size follow your local repeater listing — never copy foreign parameters blindly.
Does the FT-65R have auto repeater shift?
Yes. ARS (Auto Repeater Shift) adds the ± offset by band automatically; for manual control set SHIFT in Set Mode.
Saved but can't reach the repeater?
Check: ① transmit tone ② SHIFT direction ③ frequency lands exactly on the repeater.
Where are Shift and Offset set?
Both in F → Set Mode; SHIFT sets direction, the offset is usually given by ARS per band (2m 0.6 / 70cm 5.0).
