FT-65R CTCSS / DCS Tones
Understand tone types to reliably open repeaters.
CTCSS tones
Steps: press F into Set Mode → choose 8 CTCSS → press F → pick TX (transmit) or RX (receive) → choose a frequency (50 types, 67.0–254.1 Hz). For a normal repeater, set TX only.
DCS digital tone
In Set Mode choose 11 DCS CODE, then one of 104 codes (023–754). Pick CTCSS or DCS per the repeater’s requirement.
Squelch type
Menu 29 SQL TYPE offers: OFF / T-TONE (TX only) / R-TONE (RX only) / TSQL (same code both ways) / DCS / PAGER. Daily repeaters usually use TSQL or T-TONE.
Tip
!
“Hear but not heard” is usually a missing TX tone; “total silence” is usually a RX tone left on — set SQL TYPE back to the right option.
How many tone types does the FT-65R have?
CTCSS 50 types (67.0–254.1 Hz) + DCS 104 codes (023–754), chosen via SQL TYPE.
TSQL vs T-TONE?
TSQL = same code both ways; T-TONE = transmit tone only (no RX decode) — most common for ordinary repeaters.
Where do I find the tone value?
Published by the repeater listing/trustee — common 67.0/88.5/100.0/103.5/114.8/156.7 Hz.
